How to Set Up IPTV on Firestick
Set up IPTV Ireland on a Fire TV Stick, Fire TV or Fire TV Cube using IPTV Smarters Pro. This is the most common setup in Irish homes and takes about five minutes.
What you need
Select the magnifying glass on the home screen and search for Downloader.
Choose the Downloader app (orange icon) and select Get or Download.
Wait for it to install, then open it.
Open Downloader and select the URL bar.
Enter the download address we email you with your login details, then select Go.
When the download finishes, choose Install, then Done, then Delete to free up space.
Open IPTV Smarters Pro and choose Login with Xtream Codes API.
Type the username, password and server URL from your activation email exactly as written.
Select Add User. The channel list and EPG will load in under a minute.
Open Live TV and you will find the Irish group first – RTÉ One, RTÉ2, TG4, Virgin Media and the GAA channels.
Hold the select button on any channel to add it to Favourites.
Give the guide a minute to populate the first time you open it.
How to Set Up IPTV on Android TV and Android Boxes
Works on Android TV, Google TV, an Android TV box, or an Android phone or tablet. TiviMate is the usual choice on a TV, IPTV Smarters Pro on a phone.
What you need
Choose Add playlist → Xtream Codes.
Enter the username, password and server URL from your email.
Select Next and let the channel list download.
TiviMate pulls the EPG automatically from the Xtream Codes login.
If the guide looks empty, go to Settings → EPG → Update now.
Set your time zone to Europe/Dublin so programme times are correct.
Open the Irish group to find RTÉ, TG4, Virgin Media, UTV and the GAA channels.
Long-press any channel to add it to Favourites.
In TiviMate you can hide the country groups you never watch.
How to Set Up IPTV on iPhone and iPad
Straightforward on iOS – the player comes from the App Store, so there is no sideloading involved.
What you need
Choose Login with Xtream Codes API.
Enter your username, password and server URL.
Tap Add User.
Start a channel, then tap the AirPlay icon in the player.
Pick your Apple TV or AirPlay-compatible television.
For a permanent setup, install the app directly on the Apple TV instead.
How to Set Up IPTV on a Smart TV (Samsung, LG, Sony)
Samsung Tizen and LG webOS both have IPTV players in their own app stores, so no extra box is needed. Sony sets run Android TV – use the Android guide for those.
What you need
Message the MAC address to us on WhatsApp, or email it with your order number.
We upload your channel list against that MAC address.
This usually takes a few minutes during support hours.
Close the app completely and reopen it.
The Irish group loads first, followed by UK and the rest.
If nothing appears, unplug the TV at the wall for 30 seconds and try again.
How to Set Up IPTV on a Windows PC
Useful for testing your line quickly, or for watching at a desk. VLC is the simplest route; IPTV Smarters gives you the full guide.
What you need
In VLC: Media → Open Network Stream, paste your M3U link, then Play.
In IPTV Smarters: choose Xtream Codes API and enter your username, password and server URL.
How to Set Up IPTV on Mac and Apple TV
macOS uses the same players as Windows. Apple TV takes IPTV Smarters Pro directly from the tvOS App Store.
What you need
Open the App Store on the Apple TV and search IPTV Smarters Pro.
Install it, open it, and choose Login with Xtream Codes API.
Enter your details and let the channel list load.
How to Set Up IPTV on a MAG Box or Enigma2 Receiver
MAG boxes use a portal address rather than a username and password, so the setup is different from the app-based devices.
What you need
Message it to us on WhatsApp with your order number.
We register the MAC against your subscription and send back your portal URL.
Go to Settings → System Settings → Servers → Portals.
Give Portal 1 any name, then paste the portal URL we sent.
Save, then restart the box from Settings → Restart Portal.
How to Set Up IPTV on a Formuler Box
Formuler Z8, Z10 and Z11 ship with MYTVOnline, which takes your login directly – no sideloading needed.
What you need
Select Xtream Codes as the type.
Enter the username, password and server URL from your email.
Save and let the channel list download.
Open the Irish group for RTÉ, TG4, Virgin Media and the GAA channels.
Use the menu button on the remote to add favourites.
Set the time zone to Europe/Dublin so the guide is right.
How to watch RTÉ Player on a Firestick
RTÉ Player is free and official, and it is one of the most common things Irish Fire TV owners want on their stick. It is not part of an IPTV subscription – it is a separate, free app from RTÉ – but since so many people ask, here is the honest answer.
The short version
RTÉ Player is not in the Amazon Appstore in Ireland. There is no official Fire TV build. Anyone telling you to search the Appstore for it is wrong.
What actually works
Cast it instead. Open RTÉ Player on your phone, then AirPlay or cast to a Chromecast or a smart TV. On Fire TV, mirroring from an Android phone works but the quality is inconsistent.
The sideloading route
People do sideload the Android APK through Downloader. It often runs, but RTÉ does not support it, it breaks on updates, and geo-checks can block it. We are not going to pretend it is a clean solution.
Where we fit
Our service carries the live RTÉ One, RTÉ2, RTÉ News and RTÉjr channels on the Firestick, which is what most people actually want. It does not replace RTÉ Player’s on-demand back catalogue, and we are not claiming it does.
Same question, other apps: Virgin Media Player and TG4 Player behave the same way – no official Fire TV app, free directly from the broadcaster on phone and web.
Firestick not working? Work through these first
Almost every Fire TV problem in Ireland is one of five things, and four of them you can fix yourself in under two minutes. Try them in this order.
| Symptom | Most likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Buffering at peak times | Connection speed, not the service | Check your speed. Under 15 Mbps will buffer in HD. Move the stick closer to the router or use an ethernet adapter. |
| App is slow or freezes | Full cache | Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications → pick the app → Clear cache. Do this monthly. |
| Stick keeps restarting | Underpowered USB port | Use the official Amazon plug in a wall socket, not the TV’s USB port. |
| Channels load, guide is empty | EPG or time zone | Set the time zone to Europe/Dublin, then force an EPG refresh in the app settings. |
| Nothing loads at all | Login or line issue | Re-enter your Xtream Codes details exactly. Still nothing? Message us – that one is on us. |
How to clear the cache on a Firestick
Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications → select the app → Clear cache. Never Clear data unless you want to enter your login again. A Fire TV Stick has very little storage, so a full cache is the single most common cause of stuttering.
Does your Irish ISP block IPTV?
No. Eir, Vodafone, Virgin Media, Sky and Three all carry the traffic normally on a standard home connection, and you do not need a VPN. If one specific channel fails while everything else is fine, that is the channel, not your provider.
Which login type should you use?
You get the same channels either way, but the two login types behave differently. Use Xtream Codes unless an app forces you not to.
Xtream Codes – use this one
Three fields: username, password and server URL. Channels arrive in tidy groups, the programme guide comes with it, and if we move a server your line keeps working without you touching anything.
M3U – the fallback
One long URL. Handy for VLC and quick tests, but the guide is often patchy and the link has to be replaced by hand if the server changes. Fine for checking your line is live; not what you want on the TV.
EPG showing the wrong times
Ninety per cent of the time this is the time zone. Set the device and the app to Europe/Dublin, then force an EPG refresh. Do not use a UK or UTC setting – Irish summer time will be an hour out.
Guide is completely empty
Give it a few minutes on first login – the EPG downloads separately from the channel list. If it is still blank, refresh it manually in the app settings, or switch from an M3U link to Xtream Codes.
Common questions about setting up IPTV
What internet speed do I need for IPTV in Ireland?
About 15 Mbps for stable HD and about 25 Mbps for 4K. Most Irish fibre and cable lines are comfortably above that. If several people stream at once you need headroom on top. Below those speeds you will buffer at peak times, and that is a connection limit rather than something any provider can fix.
Do I need a VPN for IPTV in Ireland?
No. Eir, Vodafone, Virgin Media, Sky and Three all carry IPTV traffic normally on a standard home connection. A VPN usually makes things worse, not better, because it adds latency and can push you onto a slower route.
Which IPTV app should I use?
On a Firestick or Android TV, TiviMate has the best programme guide and IPTV Smarters Pro is the easiest to set up. On iPhone, iPad and Apple TV use IPTV Smarters Pro from the App Store. On a Samsung or LG smart TV use Smart IPTV or IBO Player. All of them take the same login.
Can I use Kodi with an IPTV subscription?
Yes. Install the PVR IPTV Simple Client add-on in Kodi and point it at your M3U link, with the EPG URL in the same settings screen. It works, but it is more fiddly than TiviMate or IPTV Smarters and the guide is harder to get right, so we only recommend it if you already use Kodi.
Do I need a special IPTV box?
No. If you already own a Fire TV Stick, a smart TV, an Android box, an Apple TV, a phone or a laptop, you have everything you need. If you are buying something new, a Fire TV Stick 4K is the cheapest reliable option in Ireland and an Android TV box gives you more flexibility.
How many devices can I use at once?
That depends on your plan. Starter and Premium run one device at a time; Family runs two at the same time. You can install the app on as many devices as you like – the limit is only on simultaneous streams.
How quickly is my subscription activated?
Normally within about five minutes of payment clearing. Your login details arrive by email, so check your spam folder. If nothing has arrived within an hour, message us on WhatsApp.
Is it legal to sideload apps onto a Firestick?
Installing an app from outside the Amazon Appstore is not itself unlawful, and Downloader is an ordinary Appstore app. What matters legally is whether the content you then watch is properly licensed. Our terms set out your obligations in full.
Can I record live TV with IPTV?
It depends on the app rather than the subscription. TiviMate Premium has a built-in recorder, and IPTV Smarters Pro can record on Android. On a Firestick, storage is the limit – a stick has very little free space, so record to a USB drive or an external device. Recording is not available in the Smart TV apps.
How do I turn on subtitles?
Start the channel, open the player's on-screen menu (the OK or menu button on most remotes), and choose the subtitle or audio track. Subtitles depend on the broadcast itself, so a channel only shows them if the source is carrying them. Irish and UK channels generally do; not every international channel will.
